Makie Hino

Hino has studied painting and printmaking at the School of Visual Arts., The New York School of Social Research, The Arts Students League of N.Y., The Pratt Graphic Center and The Manhattan Graphics Center.

The very first award she has received in a competition was the Silver Medal of Honor for her oil painting titled “Profile” from the Allied Artists of America in 1977.

Although she has been rather inactive in placing her works in competitions in recent years, since 1984, she has had numerous one-woman shows and group shows both in the United States and abroad.

Her works have been included or featured in the following publications: The Best of Pastels (96) and Floral Inspiration (97) published by Rockport Publishers, Inc., Gekkan Bijyutsu (Art Monthly, 6/98) published by Jitsugyono Nippon-Sha. Bijyutsuno Mado (Window of Art 5/00) published by Seikatsuno Tomo-Sha. Pastel Artists International (9-10/02, the final issue) published by Pastel Artists International.

Her mezzotint “Narcissus” was included in the exhibition title “A Century on Paper: Prints by Artists of The Art Students League, 1901-2001” (April-June 2002 at UBS Paine Webber Art Gallery). Her mezzotint prints can be seen at www.oldprintshop.com . She has been working on new images.
