NINA F. MARTINO
Nina F. Martino, Philadelphia artist, was born into an extended
family of painters: first generation: father, Giovanni Martino,
N.A., AWS, and mother Eva Martino; second generation: sisters, Babette
and Nina F. Martino.
Martino’s first instructions and most influential teachers
were her parents, Giovanni and Eva Martino. At the age of 10 she
attended Moore Institute of Art, continued her art education at
the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts on a scholarship basis,
received her B.A. from Temple University/Tyler School of Art; a
Diploma from the Accademia de Belli Arte in Florence, Italy on scholarship
and a MFA from the Instituto Allende, (the University of Guanajuato)
San Miguel de Allende, Mexico where she taught undergraduate and
graduate painting.
Her work is representational, Poetic Realism, mainly landscapes
of Montgomery County cities in and around the Philadelphia area.
She paints on location and later enlarges the small studies into
larger oil paintings on canvas or processed panel in her studio.
Martino’s landscapes are simplified compositional interpretations
of contemporary settings concentrating on strong contrast with poetic
undertones.
She has won numerous awards, international painting and mural commissions
and is included in museums and private collections.
From 2003 to 2007 a work will be included in a 5 year traveling
show for select members of the Allied Artists of America, New York.
A Family traveling museum exhibition The Martinos: A Family Legacy
is scheduled for 2004-2005 at the Butler Museum of American Art,
Ohio and the Woodmere Museum, Philadelphia.
She maintains a studio in Philadelphia and one in San Miguel de
Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico.
