Marion Roller
Marion Roller, NA, FNSS was born in Boston, Mass. Studied at the
Vesper George Scholl of Art, The Art Students League and received
her BA from Queens College. She is a versatile sculptor –
equally facile in small works in fired terra cotta or monumental
works in cast bronze. Her figures, portraits, base reliefs and medals
have been awarded numerous honors. Roller’s sculpture has
been exhibited in places throughout the world including the National
Academy of Design and National Sculpture Society in New York City;
The United States Mints in San Francisco and Denver; Albany (NY)
Institute of History and Arts: Pittsfield (MA) Museum; Cannon House
Rotunda in Washington, D.C.; National Sculpture Society of Serravizza,
Italy; Federation Internationale de la Medaille in Helsinki, Finland,
Budapest, Hungary, and widely exhibited in Eastern Europe as part
of the U.S. Information Service.
She has won The Gold Medal of Honor and the Silver from the Audubon
Artists, at least four awards from the National Sculpture Society,
the Margaret Sussman and the Charlotte Dunwiddie Memorial Awards
from the Pen & Brush and many others.
During the winter of 1999-2000 she lived and worked at Brookgreen
Gardens as their first sculpture in Residence and created their
year 2000 annual medal “Plantation Award”. She also
created an Award Medal for the National Academy of Design and in
2001, she was commissioned by The Butler Institute of American Art
in Ohio to create a medal for “The Butler Institute of American
Art Life Achievement Award in American Art”.
Marion Roller is listed in “Who’s Who in American
Art”, “Dictionary of American Sculptors from the 18th
Century to the Present” and other publications.
