ROBIN ANTAR

American sculptor Robin Antar has been called “Brooklyn’s answer to Andy Warhol. Antar began sculpting in stone as a teenager and became completely devoted to her work, carving abstract sculptures that were deeply rooted in her emotions. She received a BFA from the School of Visual Arts in New York in 1981 and turned to realism, inspired by American popular culture, in 1998.

Antar’s mission is to create a visual record of modern American culture through commonplace objects as she explores, “What is America?”

Meticulously carved in stone with her distinct brand of hyperrealism, a hamburger with fries, an American-made workboot and Oreo cookies become lasting monuments to contemporary life.
