JEAN T. KROEBER

Jean T. Kroeber is a sculptor working in stone and wood by direct carving, using only hand tools.

She is a native of New York City, now dividing her time between the city and Hampton, in upstate New York. Jean is a graduate of Harvard-Radcliffe, with a BA in History, but her interest in sculpture goes back to elementary-school days, when she was introduced to Greek history and art.

She studied briefly at the Art Students League in New York, with Jose DeCreeft, whose work she greatly admired. She has also been much influenced by Romanesque carving and the strong figures of Maillol and Zorach.

Jean is largely self-taught, confronting unpredictable materials in her attempting to extract living human forms.
